hp wrap up header - September 5

HP Families,

As we wrap up the first two days of school, it was a strong start to a new school year! Each Friday, we share school highlights and upcoming events!

Be sure to download the HP App on your Apple or Android! This week, the youngest child received the 25-26 HP Handbook Calendar. This handbook highlights key dates as well as an overview of staffing, policies and sports schedules.

Looking ahead to next week, Thursday marks the 24th anniversary of September 11th. As in past years, we will begin our day with a moment of silence after our flag salute.

Attendance - Parents, please ensure you call out your child if they will be absent. 201-768-5700.

Dress Code - We know the weather can be warm in September, but students have been reminded to dress appropriately for school. As per the Handbook Calendar, exposed stomachs and shoes with no backs were most notable this week and are not permitted in school and please NO SLIPPERS!

Cell Phone & Watches - As per district policy, during the duration of the school day, ALL smartphones, watches, gizmos and devices that connect to the internet MUST be kept silenced and in the student’s backpack/locker. Students may not access them during the course of the school day.

Traffic Information - If families will be using the Kiss and Go or Drop-Off Lane on Lynn Street, students must exit the vehicle (passenger side) WITHOUT parent assistance. There will be staff in the front of the school and on Lynn Street to assist families with drop-off.   Please note that ALL numbered spots are assigned to staff members. Parents can NOT at any point during the day park in a numbered spot. Families that are walking from the front of the school to Glen Ave or vice versa, along the Lynn Street driveway, are asked to walk in the coned-off area closest to the building. Lastly, OLV Church parking lot is not an option for families to use for parking.

Lunch Program -The HSA is very excited to resume our full lunch program on Monday, September 22. Lunch ordering for September 22nd-October 31st. Please visit www.myfooddays.com to log in or create a new account if you have not ordered lunch through the HSA before. YOU MUST CHANGE/ADD THE GRADE AND TEACHER’S NAME FOR EACH OF YOUR CHILDREN TO ENSURE PROPER LUNCH DELIVERY. Ordering will close before midnight on September 15th. You must complete and pay for your order before 9/15, or your order will be cancelled. Should you have any questions, contact us at s617paller@gmail.com . Jerry’s in town will continue to be the ONLY authorized on-demand vendor to deliver lunches to the school. Please contact them directly for questions or ordering. UBER EATS AND OTHER FOOD VENDORS ARE NOT ACCEPTED AT THE VESTIBULE.

Music News - There will be a brief meeting after school on Tuesday, September 9th, for all band students in grades 5-8, as well as any students interested in joining band. The meeting will be in the Band Room, and students will review schedules, expectations, and important information for the year. They will also receive their band handbook, which needs to be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to Mr. Ward.

From the Health Office - If your child has recently or is going for their yearly check-up, please submit their completed physical form to the nurses at hpnurses@hpsd.org.  If your child will be playing a fall or winter sport, please forward their completed athletic forms to the nurses by the first week in September.  Forms can be found on the Health Office page of the school website.  Email the nurses if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend HP!
