hp wrap up header - September 12

HP Families,

As we wrap up this week at HP, we hosted our remaining Back-to-School Nights on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Thank you to our families for a fantastic turnout.

Tomorrow morning, the Class of 2026 will be hosting a Car Wash 10:00am-2:00pm.

On Tuesday, there was a Staff vs Students Charity Soccer Event for the Urban Family Mary Strong. The game was played to a sellout crowd! Donations came in at just over $7,000. Incredible job HP! Huge thanks to our Student Council volunteers and a special shout out to coordinators Julian Torrie and Blaise Chiang and their families.

A MESSAGE FROM THE URBAN FAMILY: Our hearts are full with the love and support from our second family. We are so lucky to be surrounded by such a kind and loving community. Our love and thanks to all. The Urban Family

Also on Tuesday, we hosted Author "AJ" Amanda Woods! Students in grades 2-4 learned about magical science experiments! Huge thanks to the HSA Author Author Committee for their coordination efforts.

September is Hunger Awareness Month and we work closely with the Norwood Food Pantry. Please see the attached flyer for our collection information which begins Monday and directly impacts our local community.

At HP, we take pride in recognizing students in a number of ways. Attached, you will find our Student of the Month Character Traits. Two students per grade level, per month, are recognized for Student of the Month and receive recognition. Additionally, we have a Super Spartan Wall where student photos are displayed and notes are sent home. For the Super Spartan Wall, students are recognized when a staff member catches them helping our school community in some way!

Below are a few General September Reminders:

Attendance- Parents, please ensure you call out your child if they will be absent. 201-768-5700.

Dress Code:  We know the weather can be warm in September, but students have been reminded to dress appropriately for school. As per the Handbook Calendar, exposed stomachs and shoes with no backs were most notable this week and are not permitted in school and please NO SLIDES OR SLIPPERS!

Cell Phone & Watches: As per district policy, during the duration of the school day, ALL smartphones, watches, gizmos and devices that connect to the internet MUST be kept silenced and in the student’s backpack/locker. Students may not access them during the course of the school day.

From the Health Office:  If your child has recently or is going for their yearly check-up, please submit their completed physical form to the nurses at hpnurses@hpsd.org.   Forms can be found on the Health Office page of the school website.  Email the nurses if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend HP!

Spartan Sports & Club Corner

In sports news, in a demonstration of perseverance, our girls volleyball team kicked off their season with a huge win against Haworth! The offense was a powerhouse at the net. Kami Bird, Eden Canarick, and Sophie Donnolly teamed up for some unstoppable plays that left the other team scrambling. The defense was just as incredible. Paige Radoian, Noa Levi, and Ava Topple held the back row with powerful plays, while Quinn Hutchinson dominated the court with her endless energy. What an exciting way to start the season! Way to go, girls!

The Soccer Team got off to a tremendous start yesterday against Haworth winning 7-4! Ryland Del Prete led the team with a 5 goal game while also adding an assist. Jackson Merriman and Will Pavone added a goal each, while Ellis Torrie had an assist. The Spartans play away at Bergenfield next Thursday.
