hp wrap up header - September 12

HP Families,

As we wrap up this week at HP,  we hosted our Bi-Annual Chuseok Festival for all students and staff today. Over 65 HP students participated in a number of performances such as Fan Dance, K-Pop, Drums, Taekwondo and Choir. Students have been preparing for many months to showcase these dynamic performances. We want to thank the KPA and parent volunteers for their tremendous coordination efforts in helping to share the true meaning of Chuseok with our school community. Also, a special thank you to Ms. McHale in the Library Media Center for preparing students with read-alouds and activities. All HP families are invited to come and see the show on Saturday, September 27th at 4:00 pm in the Big Gym. There is no admission fee.

Academic Update

We’re excited to share some updates to this year’s curriculum that will enrich learning across grade levels:

Phonics (Pre-K–3):
This year, we adopted Fundations, a phonics program that provides a systematic and explicit approach to reading and spelling. Students will build foundational literacy skills such as letter and sound recognition, word blending, sentence structure, fluency, and handwriting. Lessons are brought to life with the help of Fundations’ mascots, Echo and Baby Echo, making learning both engaging and fun!

Computer Science and Design Thinking:
The CS&DT curriculum is being redesigned to give students a more hands-on experience. Students will explore computer fundamentals, including hardware, software, programming, robotics, video production, and game design, while building creativity, problem-solving skills, and curiosity about technology. They will also use the Design Thinking Process to develop original inventions and solutions to both local and global challenges.

Financial Literacy (Grades 6–8):
Our middle school students will engage in redesigned units focused on real-world skills:

  • Grade 6: Entrepreneurship through the TREP$ program

  • Grade 7: An introduction to the stock market.

  • Grade 8: Career exploration and preparation, including resume building and understanding different career pathways.

These updates reflect our commitment to preparing students with the knowledge and skills they need for success now and in the future.
