hp wrap up header - September 12

HP Families,

As we wrap up this week at HP, it was a special morning for our 6-8 middle school students. We are excited to offer an Advisory Program to our middle school students. Parents received this LETTER today outlining more details about the program.

October 6th is RESPECT Week. Check out some of the themed days our Guidance Counselors have planned. The flyer is attached.

Picture Day for PreK-8 Students will be held on Thursday, October 9th. Here is a link and code to pre-order https://order.bnlschoolpictures.com/login - PrePay Code - 6D6W7U8R - Please note, a flyer was sent home this week and it mentioned October 10th. That date is for students in the Valley Program and if students were absent on October 9th. Picture Retakes are on December 9th.

This upcoming Wednesday, October 8th is National Walk & Bike to School Day. The student council will be stamping the hands of all students who walk or bike to school. The homerooms with 100% attendance will receive homework passes.

September 15th kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month. Students will have exposure through novels, read-alouds, articles, music exploration and activities. We will share some content on Instagram/Facebook.

September is Hunger Awareness Month and we work closely with the Norwood Food Pantry. Please see the attached flyer for our collection information, which is underway and directly impacts our local community.

A Message from the HPPD:  Parents are reminded to drop off in the morning at the front “Kiss and Go” or the car line on Lynn Street. Students should not be let out of the vehicle on Harriot Ave. Thank you!

Have a great weekend HP!

Sports News:

Facing an older and more experienced Mahwah team, the middle school girls’ soccer team fought hard and held their own with every player getting meaningful minutes in our school’s first-ever all-girls soccer game on Monday! Leighton Schryver and Olivia Miller-Kehati made some huge saves to keep us in the game. Special shout-out also goes to Addison Beezer, Olive Schryver, Tierney Waldron, and Emma Sculco for leading the team in minutes played. Way to make HP proud, girls!!

The Boys Volleyball Team has made tremendous improvement since our first practice. Although we came up short in our first two matches against Northvale and Closter, the boys are trending in the right direction. We will continue to work hard and try to earn the first win of the season next week against Demarest.

The soccer team lost a challenging game against Closter on Tuesday, 3-1. Andrew Hahm scored on a Ryland Del Prete assist while Ryan Sheldon made multiple saves to keep the score close. The Spartans will play Demarest and Northvale next week.

The girls volleyball team is focused on bouncing back after a challenging week that saw them drop two tough games. Despite the losses, the players' dedication hasn't wavered, and they are committed to continuing to work hard in practice to build their skills and achieve success as the season progresses. The next opportunity to put their hard work to the test is this coming Monday in a home game against Haworth. The full roster includes a strong group across all grades: the 8th-grade players are Kami Bird, Eden Canarick, Quinn Hutchinson, Eden Ovadia, Addison Beezer, Sophie Donnelly, Alyssa Grassi, and Ava Topple; the 7th-grade players include Holly Mitchell, Katie Fischer, and Noa Levi; and the 6th-grade players are Arielle Qosaj, Teagan Devaney, and Ava Hwang. The team encourages everyone to come out and support the players as they take on Haworth next week!
